The Final P365 Pages of 2013

For the third year in a row, I have completed a "Project 365", taking at least one photo every day and incorporating it into a digital scrapbook page.  For some, this might be considered a huge accomplishment.  For me, it has become an integral part of my life to create this visual diary.

I love looking back at my 2011 and 2012 books, and look forward to paging through the 2013 book.  Of course, there is much work to be done before the 2013 book is ready for print, but at least the last weekly pages are done.

There were actually 10 days needed to finish up the year, thus at least 2 pages were needed to give it justice, especially since these last days contained both Christmas and New Year's Eve, in addition to lots of gifts, great food, a few trips and, last but not least, a completed pair of socks.

Week 5253right photo Week-52-53-p2_zps62bc24ae.jpg

But wait, there's more! One cannot document a Christmas with just a single photo, although one can pick out a favorite. In fact, in 2010 I made a whole book just for Christmas and the holidays. These additional pages will go into the 2013 book, as will others that supplement the project 365 photos.

Week 51

In which I chalked up my Christmas chalkboard, made a snowman out of a POM bottle, ate cookies, bought some punch glasses at Savers, and admired the Christmas tree ornaments.

Tahoe Photo Book - Done!

Just in the saint nick of time, I got this photo book done, as the coupon was about to expire tomorrow. I didn't think I was going to be able to do it, but somehow it came together!

Tahoe Cover Pages

I've come to the end of the pictures, now the always daunting task of creating covers for my Tahoe book. They went faster than I expected.

I thought I would feature my Instagram photos on the cover, but once it was put together, it looked more like a back than a front.
 Tahoe Back Cover photo Tahoe-Front-Cover_zps3c458de5.jpg

So on the front I went with what is still a highlight of Tahoe for me, SUPing, and of course being away with Mr. AC.   I blended several photos for the background, placing it on a canvas texture with some simple frames and embellishments.

The Snowman

I was walking out of the house when the POM bottle in the recycle bin called out to me.
I can be something, it said.   Indeed you look quite like a snowman.  And so it began.

Several coats of paint on the body, some surgery to shorten the neck, and my crochet skills used to make a hat, but the paint just wasn't covering the tennis ball.
Why not "modify a tube sock" suggested Mr. AC .
And so I did, and at Ms. AC's suggestion, crocheted a scarf.

Then I glued on some buttons for eyes and a mount, and a pin head for a nose, and called it a crafty day.  He still needs some stick arms, but I have many other projects to finish before Christmas.

The Scramble to Finish Tahoe

Once again facing one of those Groupon expiration date dilemmas...can I finish scrapping the summer pictures before my Groupon expires on the 25th??  I am thinking there is not enough energy in me, but I will go down trying.

A couple more pages from our bike ride on the day we left Tahoe.  It was a great ride, a wonderful path, beautiful scenery along the way, and just enough to be tired without being worn out.

Yes, Tahoe is that blue, and that green, and that clear and beautiful.  Don't tell anyone, in case I change my mind, but at this point I have decided to go on that Tahoe trip next year, as the lure of being able to see this every day for a week is too great to pass up.

Favorite Christmas Movie

For the Oscraps 12 Days of Christmas celebration, we are scrapping quotes from our favorite Christmas movie.  Mine is from Elf.  Pictures are of San Francisco from the air on our way to Mexico.

Week 50

In which it was cold, really cold, freezing cold, with ice even!  And my Jane needed a repair.  And we went to see the Hobbit 2nd movie.

The Christmas Chalkboard

It might be hard for someone to understand, how much enjoyment I get out of this chalkboard.  I am not even sure I understand it.  But I can sit in front of this board and work on the lettering for hours.  The lettering designs are not original, I am not a good enough graphic artist to develop my own chalkboard lettering design.  But I google images, find something I like, take a picture, then get to work.

Looking back, it seems I haven't been keeping up the documentation of my chalkboard.  First it was a discarded cabinet door, transformed with chalk paint and a frame, back at the end of August.  It took a while to get the framing done, the gold frame a purchase from Scrap.

Plain chalkboard photo IMG_5128_zpsf2313a24.jpg

My first design was for Halloween. I like the mix of a little color on this design.

Halloween Chalkboard photo IMG_5149_zps1a44c589.jpg

Then for Thanksgiving I put the menu on it.  I like the top, but my lettering needs more work.

Thanksgiving Chalkboard photo IMG_5863_zps212c82d1.jpg

And now, for Christmas...I absolutely LOVE how it came out and think I am getting a better hang of the lettering.

Digital Wreath

For the Oscraps 12 Days of Christmas wreath challenge.
It was tricky getting the shadows correct on this, but I persisted.  I think it would make a nice Christmas card, if only I had thought of that sooner.

Documenting December the 8th

Just documenting some additional December days here and there, as I am backlogged on books and scrapping from 2012 and the summer, but meanwhile there are some special things about December to capture, like the decorating of the dining room.
This year I decided to hang some ornaments from the chandelier, and found this perfect length of red beads to use, hanging 8 Mickey Mouse ornaments on the 8 arms of the chandelier on the 8th day of the month.

Week 49

In which  it was cold, so cold that hats and coats came out of the closet, to be worn even during the day, I treated myself to a new poinsettia, and I got to see the Christmas tree in Union Square, which I missed last year.

Socks are being knitted, car repairs needed doing, bocce was played.

Golden Gate Bridge with Freebies

Another of the December challenges at Oscraps is to make a page with 8 free items that begin with the letters n the word FREEBIE.  That's pretty clever.
F- frame
R- red
E- word art with E in it
E- ellipse (can be a circle)
B- bling or box
I- image
E- effervescent (profusion of small bubbles- like glitter or paint!)
And here is my result, one of the pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge from the bike ride we did across the bridge.  Everything except the picture is available free at Oscraps.

Capitola Begonia Festival

For my December multi-designer challenge at Oscraps, I challenged participants to  use a simple formula and speed-scrap a page in under an hour.

And of course I did the same myself.

The formula is:
1. paper
2. frame
3. fastener
4. word art
5. elements x 3 (can be the same element repeated 3xs or three related elements)
6. mask

Here is the page I created, the picture is the bridge over the creek in Capitola on the day of the begonia festival, August 31.

When I opened the Photoshop file back up to get the credits for posting, I decided to embellish a bit, just to blend it all a little more.  I'm not sure which I like better.

Tahoe Selfies

One of the last pages I need to create for the Tahoe trip, this with several selfies, plus one photo taken by the nice people at Anderson's bicycle rental .  These are all from our bike ride on the National Forest Service bike trail.  South Lake Tahoe is full of bike-friendly lanes, but this one was perfect, almost all off-road, paved, gently sloping here and there, and with access to some beautiful beaches and areas along the way, including the quite extensive Camp Richardson and the Tallac Historical Site.

The additions of elements from Maya de Groot's Wayfarer and Jen Maddocks Let's Ride, including that fabulous vintage bike riders photo and the bicycle sign which I mounted on a real pole extracted from the upper left photo, really makes this a dynamic page.

Sock It To Me ... Again

Another pair of socks finished, and I believe the second sock came off without incident.

They look great, and I would gladly give them as a gift, except I don't know how well they will wash, so I may need to keep them and experience them myself.

These are 100% cotton, the well-written free pattern found here.

Cork Wreath #2 Hanging

Cork wreath #2 has reached its recipient and us now hung on their front door.
I have to admit it looks pretty good, just hope it survives the harsher winter of New Jersey.

The Art of Journaling

Finally I have gotten around to trying Maya de Groot's Art of Journaling templates.  She is now up to #7, which I used here to start on some pictures from the bike ride we did across the bridge into Sausalito and Tiburon.

The templates are in the size of an art journal page at 8x11, which will be tricky to print, but I may need to look into Blurb printing for this size.

A Break to Smell the Roses

I am taking a slight break from the Tahoe and summer scrapping to smell the roses. I actually created this page a few weeks ago, and it was one of the first creative pages I have done in a while. It is for the Oscraps blog challenge 1 Kit 5 Ways using the beautiful Country Rose bundle from Crafty Button Designs.  I especially love the cherries card with the special number on it.

Week 47

In which we got the first real rain of the season, I started quilting a quilt for Margaret, The Nat's book arrived along with The Nat's Dad's birthday present, and a lot of thought is going into planning the Thanksgiving menu, now on the chalk board at the front door.

Tahoe Wedding

When we first got out to the beach at Lake Tahoe after checking in to the hotel, it was set up for a wedding, with a lovely arch down at the water's edge.  Combined with Craft Button's beautiful White Wedding kit at Oscraps.

Still Scrapping Tahoe

I have a lot of pictures from our August trip to Tahoe, so this may take a while.  Another page, featuring the views over Emerald Bay, with Jen Maddocks Mistletoe kit.

The Next Book - Tahoe

Yup, bought another Shutterfly book from Groupon, this one intended to cover the rest of the summer, which will mostly be Tahoe.

I already have 7 pages, all featuring me SUPing, so I am now just working in order.  This vertical landscape format is really growing on me.
And I love seeing all this blue!

Week 46

Which was spent in Cabo, while Ms AC was in New York.  This is the second week using the FotoSquared Album Templates from Anna Aspnes.  I like the variety and the little labels on the frames, and it is nice to break up the repetition with a larger photo in the background.

I also have finally done something I always wanted to do on my Project 365, and that is to actually number the photos.  These are 314 through 320.  I don't know that I will go back, but I like this.

Greetings from Mexico

I didn't see a single postcard in Cabo.  My go-to cheap souvenir idea failed me.  I don't know if they existed and I just didn't see them, for certainly there are plenty of such images on the internet, but I never saw a single postcard to buy.  Of course it was really difficult to browse since the vendors were so aggressive, so perhaps they did exist.  But alas, I brought none home.

And so I must make my own!

This is for the December color challenge at Oscraps, to make a 'card' with Christmas colors of red, green and gold.  Fortunately we remembered to take pictures of Cedric before we left.  It's really hard to get a clear picture of both Cedric in front and the background, but I found I could pretty easily merge the two photos so that both foreground and background are in focus.

I used part of this tutorial for making the 3D Mexico graphic.  Most everything else is from the upcoming collab kit, It's a Wonderful Life.

Cabo Crowns

For Maya de Groot's November Express Your Creativity Challenge, the challenge is to work with crowns.  I had a couple of pictures from Cabo that worked pretty well.  One morning I decided to capture some details, since so many of the pictures were broad views of the beautiful bay at Medano Beach with those captivating rocks in the distance.  So in contrast, I took some pictures of walls, sidewalks, and things like rusty bottle caps in the surf.  But a couple of these were perfect for this challenge.

Week 45

In which it looks quite a bit like fall, but there hasn't been a bit of rain, the day lily bloomed in the front courtyard, and we packed for Cabo, spending the night in San Francisco having dinner with Ms AC and That Sam I Am before taking off.

Because it is chillier, I have moved to the upstairs office, where the morning sun, a closed door and upstairs heat makes it more comfortable to work.  Every year I am surprised and delighted to find the stamped horse on the desk pullout.

Nearly to the end of the year, I have used some slightly different templates, these are FotoSquared Templates from Anna Aspnes.

Cabo Nail Art

I'm not as serious as some about nail art,but have to admit I find it tremendously fun!
So this is in prep for our trip to Cabo, although I think it would work as well for Christmas or Italy.

All polishes are Spoiled from CVS so this cost less than $5.
