POTD Europe 2011 - Day 19 Gimmelwald

The last time we were here in the Swiss Alps, it rained for the hike from Gimmelwald to Murren, and so we missed some of the primitive splendor that is Gimmelwald. We were able to rediscover it the other day, and I enjoyed it so much, that we repeated the short hike this morning when we found we would have a few hours free.
It is not just the splendid views and abundant presence of gnomes, but Gimmelwald is a tiny village where real people farm the land, raise cows and make cheese, grow beautiful flowers among their vegetables, and decorate their village with a colorful array of flora and fauna. Once discovered, Gimmelwald is sublime.
