After 3 years of wishing I could make this, we finally got to attend a Roadworks street festival. Roadworks is an amazing annual event at the San Francisco Center for the Book (SFCB). Artists linocuts are laid on the ground, covered with blankets, and printed with the aid of a steamroller!

Featured artists carve an entire 3' x 3' block, with amazing detail.

Additional artists carve 1' x 1' blocks and they print them shown revealing the first printing after the steamroller had done its job.

One print goes to the artist and a second one is auctioned at the center's annual gala.

It was truly exciting and inspiring to see this event. There were also a lot of vendors displaying and selling their print works.
Printing, which at one time helped the world go round, is moving out of the mainstream. SFCB is a somewhat rare organization attempting to preserve this wonderful art form, and the art of the book!
