New Directions II - SFA

Here's another Small Format Art (SFA) piece done with Shiva oil painkstiks and lots of quilting and couched copper fibers.
I love the colors in this piece...reminds me of Sedona or somewhere in the Southwest.
I began with black cotton broadcloth fabric. I did a textural rubbing with copper and turquoise Shiva oil paintstiks using a rubber rubbing plate. The oils have been curing for a week while we were in the mountains, and then are heat set. I then began a layering and composition with hand-dyed turquoise squares and copper fibers couched in place with metallic threads. Then the entire piece was free-motion quilted with copper metallic thread in a variety of patterns to add organic form. A gold, copper and turquoise metallic cotton fabric backs the piece, and turquoise hand-dyed fabric completes the stitched binding.

eBay has been talking up ACEOs and Small Format Art lately. Take a look!
